Ontario Lottery and Gaming Helping Gambling Addicts

Ontario casinos and slot machines are starting to bring in facial recognition software into all casinos so that they can help gambling addicts stay out of trouble. This new project has been checked by the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner to say that it is safe. Most casinos in Ontario should be putting their first biometric scanner in early 2011. The first slot machines that will have the scanner will be the slot machines at the Woodbine race tracks. The cameras will link with a system and notify and alert the staff of the area that there is someone who as been registered as a gambling addict. The cameras will use biometric scanning to read the persons face, then people that have been registered it will relay the info into a system that matches the files of the pictures then if someone who has been noted as an addict will be flagged. Although many people like the idea of the scanners they don't like a picture of them being taken, OLG has guaranteed that this information will be safe and will not be used for any other purpose. The picture will be taken if it matches it will be kept but if it was not matched it will automatically erase. Even if the data is stolen there is no personal data recorded just biometric figure of your face which is useless.

I believe that this is a great way to help people out, I believe that it will also evolve so that it will not only detect if the person is an addicted gambler i believe that it will soon have an up link with the police to notify if any criminals are in the buildings. Sure many people don't like being "biometric scanned" but it is to help people out not to steal your biometric data and pictures, generally if things are passed by the privacy commissioner it is generally safe and will not invade your privacy, and if you don't like it don't go, an easy alternative to the scanners. I believe that if these scanners are as effective as they said they are that every store, business, house etc. will be installing it is just an easy way to keep you safe. I also believe that this would be a great tool for airports to have, imagine if every time you went into an airport you would be scanned if a threat entered the airport you would be safe. I believe that these biometric scanners provide yet another safety precaution to aid gambling addicts and to make people feel safer.

North Korea Shells South Korean Island

On Tuesday November 24th 2010 North Korea shelled a small island that is part of South Korea. There were 2 South Korean marines that died and 15 other troops were injured, there were three civilian injuries. South Korea has issued a warning to the North about the un-neccecary shelling. Due to this warning all military troops are on high alert for South Korea. The island that was shelled is called Yeonpyeng. Many believe that this shelling was the after effect of a small skirmish between the two countries. South Korea was performing military drills close to the border, Seoul refused to leave and began to fire shells into water close to the North Korea shores. North Korea retaliated and sent artillery fire to the South. The American government is trying to convince the Chinese government to try to convince the North Korean government to stop and prevent any more damage that is already done. The U.S. is also sending military training troops to aid South Korea. The South Korean Government is calling these acts "inhumane atrocities" and the United States government is calling it an "outrageous, unprovoked attack". Many people don't understand the purpose of this attack, innocent people are being killed for no reason at all.

I believe that this is outrageous, in today's society there should never ever be random shelling, we can now be civilized enough to call a meeting and talk it over to fix whatever is making North Korea angry. In today's society it is not acceptable to just bomb another country for no apparent reason, that screams retaliation and casualties. I believe that as a last resort, if this becomes much more than just shelling, violence should be used, at no other time should it be used. If this "shelling"escalates to a full on war this will be a problem and everyone will be on South Korea's side because everyone is now civilized enough not to go around and bomb people for no apparent reason. I believe that the Americans are making a very smart point to try to use the pull of China to talk to North Korea and to make sure that this doesn't escalate into anything much more than it already is.

U.S. Airforce Warns Troops about New Facebook Feature

The commanders and generals of the U.S. army sent out a warning, letting all troops know that they should be careful when using the new Facebook feature that locates where the account is being used from. This poses a major security threat to the troops. If the troops were to access this "locate tool" they could post were they currently were therefore posing an easy way for enemy troops to locate and attack the U.S. troops with ease. One of the major threats are those caused from Blackberry's or iPhones in which location services can be used via a network connection all the time using location services on either of these devices. The reason they feel this is threatening is because the enemy could easily locate where the main base station's are located, it is also much more of a threat because of the increasing popularity of Blackberry's and iPhones. On most of the programs you actually have to activate the service and list different locations. A main security issue is those people that activate the program un-aware that there security settings are at "everybody" meaning that there full profile is un-protected and available for all to see.

I believe that this warning sent out is extremely right, you would never want the enemy to know your position, it would make you look like sitting ducks. I personally do not use this location feature on facebook, I feel that its not right i do not want people to know where i am all the time, when I want to let people know where i am i just tell them, I don't need them snooping through my profile to see where i wrote my last post. I believe that soldiers should all have this off in the first place, it would risk the lives of all the other soldiers in his or her area. Another good point is that Facebook automatically sets it to off meaning that the people using it have to make a conscious decision whether to let the whole world know where they are. Although this may be cool, and it could be a sense of pride to say that the solider is writing from Afghanistan, it is a safety hazard and for that reason I agree with the commanders and believe that location services on social networking sites should be turned off at all times.

Airport Body Scanners are They Safe?

Last January the Canadian government said that full screen body scanners would be installed in almost every Canadian airport. The scanners are used to further test and see what people are hiding. For people that are subjected to this further scan have two options either they can receive the full screen body scan which scans and casts a full screen 3D portrait of the persons naked body or they can receive a full pat down from officers on guard. The reason that these are in place is because last year during Christmas on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit a bomber tried to set off a bomb, his attempt was unsuccessful but Canadian and American security measures are being bumped up to prevent security threats like these. Many people have concerns about the scanner and the pat-down, many people are worried about being scanned due to radiation and many people do not like the pat-down because they feel it is invading. The radiation has been tested and it is much less than what you would receive on your average chest xray meaning that you would have to enter the body scanner alot of times in order to receive the same amount of radiation you do in a chest x-ray. Another worry people have is that the image of their body might be saved or brodcasted, the manufactures of the body scanner guarantee that after the scan is done and viewed it cannot be re-viewed.

In my opinion there are two different views you could have you could look at this and say it is an invasion of privacy and that the pat-down is and should be considered sexual assault or you can look at it the way I look at it. I look at the body scanner and feel more secure I feel that when i am flying I am one hundred percent sure that there will be no threats of any kind. I believe that airport security isn't there to be perverted and look at your body when you go through the scanner I believe that it is an extra safety precaution preventing any civilian casualties and plane crashes. Sure there is a safety precaution of whether these things are safe but it is proven that you would have to use the body scanners over 100 times to receive the same amount of radiation you would for a single flight across Canada and it would take you over 100 flights across Canada to receive the same amount of radiation as a chest scan. For these reasons I believe that body scanners are good for airports and should be installed.

Food Bank Usage on the Rise

The food bank usage in all of Canada is increasing alot. The main factor of why people are using the food banks more is that people don't have enough substantial income for a job due to the recession, many people that use the food banks have part time low paying jobs, they use that money to buy necessities for their families and they use the food bank to cover food costs. A survey done shows that there are over 867, 948 people that use food banks as of March 2010, of this population 9.2 percent used a food bank for the very first time, there are many children under the age of 18 that use food banks, half of the families that use the food banks have children, and 17 percent have employment income. Food banks are becoming increasingly popular for many families to keep them afloat in the economy today it is due to the lack of economic stability that Canada has been witnessing over the past couple of years.

I believe that when the economy gets strong again and people are getting re-employed the usage and demand for the food bank will decrease. The usage of the food bank is highly dependent on peoples income if they have a lower income they will use the food bank to support their families for food so they can spend money on other necessities like their house or mortgage. I believe that having the food bank available for easy access is important, it is important for people to be fed and it is amazing how we have the power to keep people fed as a community. As stated in my earlier blogs the amount of mortgages taken are drastically showing due to the economy, it shows how people are paying off mortgages and are not having enough money for food therefore they are using the supplied food banks to supply. For the reasons stated I feel that food banks and the rise of their usage is a good thing.

Mortgage Debt Drops to $1 Trillion

In Canada, people are holding over $1 trillion dollars worth of mortgage debt. This is a drastic increase and the first time the total debt has passed this level, this is a 7.6% increase over the past year. Although the total amount of mortgage debt is extremely high, it is said that the mortgages themselves are rather low and are managing well. The average amount of a mortgages taken are around $146,000, which often is 50% of their home value. In Canada the average price for a new home is roughly $300,000. More people are making smarter decisions and paying off their mortgages with monthly payments and very few people are coming in with late or no payments.

I believe that to have debt this high is unbelievable its amazing how much money people put in to mortgages. I believe that there should be a tighter criteria on mortgages because if this debt keeps up it is going to drive the Canadian economy into the ground. On the other hand it is great that many of the people who are getting mortgages on their houses are paying them back, the bad thing is the fact that there is so much money being payed out via mortgages. Although the debt is so high the payback is coming steadily. To conclude I believe that it is important to let people have an equal chance at buying a house and the mortgage system allows that, for that reason i believe that being $1 trillion dollars in debt is OK.

Yemen Bomb 17 Minutes from Exploding

On November 4th two Yemen bombs were intercepted from transit, one was intercepted in England and the other in Dubai. The bombs were on route to USA they were being sent via air freight. The bomb was detected and defused 17 minutes before it would detonate. Upon finding the bomb investigators focused on the Yemen based Al-Queda in the Arabian Peninsula. The bomb was found do to a tip from the Saudi authorities and were pulled off the US bound cargo ship. The explosives were extremely difficult to identify they are called PETN, they are held inside a printer cartridge, inside of a much bigger box. The bombs contained anywhere from 300-400g of PETN this much of PETN is big enough to cause a large explosion. The bombs were wired via phones and the phones were used as timers and were set to go off at certain times. The bombs that were intercepted were allegedly linked to the man who attempted last years December 25th failed attack on a US airliner.

I believe that the fact that the bombs were intercepted and defused so no civilian casualties happened was amazing. On the other hand i feel that it is unacceptable for the senders of these bombs to get away with it. I believe that bombs like these should never ever even enter an airport or enter a plane in the first place, extra security precautions should be taken, there should be and is a zero tolerance for any kinds of weapons, searches should be mandatory and
x-rays should be viewed more carefully. I also think that with this bomb threat there should be searches for the man or the men that planted the bomb in the first place. There should be a major investigation involving many more men and much more technology should be used to track this man or men. I believe that if we have the technology to find a bomb on a plane, and defuse it before it explodes there is a chance that we could and should find there people.

Woman Accused of Faking Cancer Back in court

In Burlington Ontario a woman by the name of Ashley Kirilow, faked cancer to try to claim money. She shaved her eyebrows and shaved her hair to make it look like she was going through chemotherapy. She went to significant lengths to make people believe that she had cancer, she hosted events to raise money for a non-existent cancer charity. Kirilow is is facing six counts of fraud under $5000 and one over $5000.

I believe that doing something like this is completely and totally wrong. Not only did she steal from people who probably have friends or family that suffer from cancer but she took money for her own selfish reasons. I believe that doing this will also give people a very low sense of security when donating to a charity, this will stop people from donating to charity freely, people will want to do their research and it will take more time to donate. I feel that this person should have to return all the "donations" she received and give them back to the donor's. If she cant put together the money I believe that she should be sent to jail or be fined for the damage that she has done to many people.

Hyundai Making More Fuel Efficent Cars

Over the years Hyundai has become one of the biggest and most powerful Asain car companies on the planet. Since Hyundai's start they have been trying to improve and make their cars more fuel efficient. This year Hyundai's Sonata (2011) has preliminary fuel data of 6.7L per 100 highway kilometers. Hyundai is striving within the next 15 years to have their cars at an average fuel economy of 4.7 L per 100 highway kilometers. With many of the impressive fuel economy ratings Hyundai has become ranked 2nd in the world for most fuel efficient and greenest cars on the road, tied with Toyota. Hyundai is making drastic changes to their vehicle which will enhance the fuel economy of the vehicle, they are installing technologies such as twin scroll turbochargers, gasoline direct injection, electric power steering, and improved transmissions with 6 speed. Although the prices for installing the new parts is alot Hyundai is becoming more cost effective by manufacturing and ordering the parts in high volumes. The government agencies announced that they will be developing tougher greenhouse gas and fuel economy standards for passenger cars on the road. Meaning that Hyundai is on the road to making the Earth a greener place.

I think that this is great. Too many car companies today are not cutting down on their fuel emission standards. Hyundai is leading the way in innovation for better fuel economy and lower emission standards. I believe that more car companies should go "green" many companies are changing and becoming greener but there is not enough companies still have cars with brutal fuel economy. I think that in the near future car companies will be forced to change with the time whether or not the companies agrees or not, for many reasons I believe this because people will no longer be able or willing to pay 120 dollars at the pump for gas, they will want better cars that have better fuel economy and lower prices at the pump. The future of the world is in the peoples hands. Global warming is coming and if people start cutting waste and reducing pollution there is a chance that it can stop. I believe that Hyundai is doing its part and stepping up to the plate to make a greener world.

Toyota Recalls 1.5 Million Cars

Today the Toyota Motor Corporation said it will be recalling 1.53 million cars today. These cars include lexus, avalon, and many other models. The reason for the recall is that there are problems with the fuel pump and there is also problems with the brake fluid. Within one year Toyota has recalled over 10 million cars for many different reasons, these recalls have made people question the quality reputation that Toyota has built for all these years. The main spokes person for Toyota says that the problems with the brake fluid could lead to weaker breaking power. Although the problems have been noted there have been no accidents caused by these problems yet.

I believe that problems and recalls like this shouldn't be happening. Toyota has a reputation to protect they have good quality products. The manufacturers should be double and triple checking all the cars for maintenance issues. Malfunctions in a car could cause near death or deadly consequences. If a car is not up to standard it should be up the to manufacturer to make sure that the product is built correctly. The problem with recalls is that people don't have the time to go out and waste their time on a car that they purchased because Toyota made a problem. Another problem with recalls is that many of the companies have no idea what order or who's car to replace or fix first, cost is also another issue preventing people from sending their car in for a recall because often they have to pay for a rental car or pay for a taxi to get around to places that they need to get around to. For these reasons i believe that recalls; especially for automotive companies should be prevented.

Charges Dropped for G20 Protesters

Today many of the charges for the G20 protesters were dropped. Many people were very satisfied with the decision to drop the charges. People felt that the police used too much force to keep the protest under control. Apparently innocent people were hit and brought to jail. The reason the charges were dropped were because the crown did not have enough evidence to support the charges. There were 90 charges dropped today. The charges that were dropped were for people that were inside the University of Toronto and were in the graduate studies building, the police raided the building and arrested 90 people for conspiracy to commit a criminal act. Many people feel that the arrests that were made were made with insufficient evidence to even convict the people.

I believe that the charges should not have been dropped. The protesters in the G20 summit caused endless amounts of damage, windows were smashed, police cars were totaled and many other damages were reported. I believe that if you cause damage to other peoples property you should be charged, it wasn't one person who did all the damage but there were many others, and just because many people did it, it doesn't mean that they are all not guilty. I think that the charges should be put through or at the least the people charged should have to pay back what was broken. The reason the police used great amounts of force was because people were attacking and would have caused harm to innocent bystanders in the streets. For these reasons I believe that the charges should be put through not dropped.

17 Men Rescued from the Chilean Mine

On August 5th 2010 33 Chilean miners were trapped underground in a mine. There were many different thoughts floating around whether the men were alive or dead. Seventeen days after the collapse a narrow hole was burrowed down finding the men. They sent a note saying that they were all OK. On September 17th the hole was dug wider. Today on October 13th 2010 the men have been making their way up into daylight. These men have the record for staying trapped underground and surviving the longest time. The men have been getting rescued one by one. As of right now 17 are now up and 16 are still to make their way up. There were many different plans to lift the men up. Some suggested that they create a large metal tube big enough for the men to be pulled up. In the end the decision was to send a metal capsule down and one by one the men would be rescued.

This rescue is amazing, many people didn't believe at the beginning that these men survived the collapse. To know that they were living and surviving is amazing. These men were stuck down in cave for over 60 days. The small hole that was drilled at first was used to send food down to the men. I think that this rescue is unbelievable, the fact that now we have technology to dig down into their cave and rescue the men is crazy. These men are so fortunate to be alive. If this collapse happened 50 years ago the chances would have been slim to none. I also have another opinion to the collapse, after talking about how great the technology of today is a fatal collapse like this should have never taken place, extreme safety precautions should have been taken to prevent this, I believe that the mining company has learned a lesson and better precautions will take place in the near future.

GPS Leads Women into Ontario Marsh

On Wednesday October 6th a 25 year old women following GPS directions through Murray Marsh was mislead and drove straight into a waste deep marsh. The water filled her car immediately and she was forced to evacuate and stand on the top of her car. She called the police from her cell phone, the first attempt to find her was unsuccessful, the rescue crews asked the women to repeatedly honk her horn. Finally the rescue crews arrived and the firefighters had to put wet suits on to go and bring the women to safety.

In one of my earlier blogs I spoke about a megabus that crashed into a bridge because the driver was using a GPS. This new article supports my idea that GPS systems should be banned. In many cases GPS systems are great, such as in big residential and commercial areas, such as Toronto, but when the GPS system is trying to guide people through very marshy, and very un-tracked land, the GPS system could be mis-calculated or mis-read. Therefore leading people into bad situations. I believe that GPS systems should have a function where as when the person is moving, or the system is moving that it should lock down therefore no new additions to the route can be added until stopped. I also believe that if GPS systems are going to be used they should be marked and the road's should be placed in the right spot, therefore not allowing people to get lost. In this article there could have been many different factors that affected why she got lost it could have been dark, she could have been disoriented, but the main reason was the GPS.

Red Sludge Flooding in Hungary

Today in Hungary the red sludge reservoir flood has claimed 3 more lives. The flood was caused by a rupture in the reservoir where this material was being held. The sludge is a waste product of aluminum and contains many deadly metals. If ingested the sludge would and will kill people. Many people have been affected by the sludge through stepping in it, it has seeped through their pants leaving burns. The chemical burns caused by the sludge could take a while to show their affects, but their side affects could be deadly. In total over 120 people have been injured, of those 2 are in critical condition. Over 390 residents had to be evacuated from their homes. The sludge has been spread over a 40 kilometer radius. The government is now pumping plaster in the major streams of red sludge to prevent the spreading. Many environmental groups have been warning the government that red sludge is one of the most dangerous in the world.

I believe that the government of Hungary should have taken the complaints and suggestions into greater detail. A disaster like this could have been prevented if the toxic waste was removed and place elsewhere. Now many people are losing, their homes, and their lives just because of a malfuncion and a rupture in a red sludge reservoir. Since red sludge is a by product of aluminum manufacturing i believe for the time being that the aluminum manufacturing should be shut down until the problem is sorted between the sludge. It is also suggested that at the rate that the sludge is flowing it may reach the Danube river, which is a main water stream and supply for many people. As stated before if the sludge is consumed it can cause life threatening injuries and could lead to death.

Taliban Removed from New Metal of Honor Game

Metal of Honor has been a long running game series, starting back on the PS2 in 1999. The Metal of Honor games have always been based on World War 2. This year the game developers EA (Electronic Arts) are adding a new spin, they have based the game in the present war in Afghanistan. The game initially had the Taliban as the enemy of the game. Many critics, gamers, and war veterans of Afghanistan do not like this, they feel that is is not right for the present enemy to be in a video game, when real people are being killed by this group as we speak. EA has decided to change the name of the group to opposing forces. The change does not affect game play itself. They are also following the role of the very successful Modern Warfare 2, Activision game. In Modern Warfare 2 the enemies are known as the OpFor; a fictional group of terrorists.

I believe that if EA wants to make the game more life-like by adding real terrorists to their game, they should be allowed. Many other games set in the different World Wars have the real enemies name. Only when things are presently going on they cannot be added. I also think that if the Taliban is going to be banned in the new Metal of Honor game that all enemies should be banned and replaced with fictional, randomly generated names. It does not make sense to have one game not allowed to have the Taliban when many others set in WWI and WWII have the real enemy name with real events that happened such as the bombing in pearl harbour. I also believe that many of the complaints came from many of the people that will not even play the game. Most gamers are ok with what content is in the game. Also the game will be under the rating M (Mature 17+) meaning that many children should not be playing this game, therefore that the only people that will be exposed to and allowed to play will be over 17 years of age.

Western Canada Has Biggest Population Growth Rate

From April to Canada day (July 1st) the population of Canada increased by .36% or 120,800 people. Stats Canada says that Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have the greatest population growth rate of all the provinces in Canada. The reason the three provinces populations are increasing is because the natural increase is increasing (Births minus Death). There are also many reasons also suggested such as, many natural resources, lots of jobs and business opportunities, as well as lots of agriculture and oil.

The increase in population is extremely good for Canada's economy, it puts more money into the economy. There are also many other reasons people may want to move out to the western part of Canada such as the natural scenery. I believe that more people should be populating the west, it provides many jobs, and a very good natural resources are offered in the prairies.

Canadian Online Shopping Tops $15.1B in a Year

Statistics Canada has released information relating to internet purchases. Last year in 2009 Canadians purchased 15.1 billion dollars worth of goods and services online. Statistics show that the purchases were made majority by males and between the ages of 16-35, it also says that there were over 95 million orders placed on the internet. The average order value is priced at $158 dollars. The most common purchases were travel services and entertainment services. A survey also shows that 52 percent of Canadians went on the internet to look at different products.

I believe that internet shopping has broadened our view of products on the market. I feel that it is a good way to enhance the Canadian market and make our economy stronger. Nearly every person has purchased something on the internet from a .99 cent iTunes song to a pair of head phones, to a video game. I think that this is good. Although it prevents people from getting outside and walking around and exercising while shopping (walking around mall) it is a useful and convenient way of doing business. I believe that if companies don't have online shopping the store will not be in business for much longer.

Czech Republic Stops Google Street View

In Czech Republic Google Street View would like to expand its range in the Eastern European country. The Czech Republic is not allowing google to expand its street view range because they believe that it is an invasion of privacy. Many people say that the camera mounted on the car is too high, it is approximately nine feet tall, they say that it can peer over the fence of many people's homes, therefore invading there personal property. Many people also believe that their houses could be studied and invaded due to street view. Its not only Czech that google is having trust issues with there are many other European nations that don't like the idea of street view.

I agree with the Czech Republic, I feel that this is an invasion of privacy. I don't want random strangers looking at my house, for safety purposes. I feel that it also lowers the feeling of security of many people, for instance people can look at your house find a spot that is always open and plan a break in. Although google is trying to broaden the view of many people around the world, I personally don't really want to look at other peoples houses it doesn't interest me and I feel that it is un-neccecary to see what people have. Not only does it take pictures of houses and streets it takes pictures of cars on the street and cars in your drive way. For example people may have an expensive car and google may capture an image of this car therefore giving the impression that you are either wealty or erragant because they have an expensive car. People of the world get very jealous of what other people have. Giving them the urge to break in and steal things.

Bridge Collapses at Common Wealth Games

At the common wealth games a footbridge collapsed, 27 people were injured and four were taken with critical injuries. The bridge was under construction when the mid section gave out. Bystanders watched as the bridge twisted and turned in the midsection before it collapsed. The bridge was being constructed to connect the parking lot with the main stadium in New Delhi. Many of the organizers for the event are questioning the choice of New Delhi to host. There have been issues outside of the bridge about cleanliness, plumbing, electrical wiring, and internet access. The villages that were supposed to hold the athletes are not properly prepared, the Canadian team has decided that they would stay at a hotel instead of the village residences. Many people are questioning whether the event will continue at this slow, unprepared pace.

I believe that errors like these can be prevented. The bridge should never had collapsed the bridge should have had proper support braces to make sure that nothing like this ever happened. Also since New Delhi is hosting these games they should be prepared having athletes move to hotels due to unpreparedness is wrong. These problems should have been dealt with months and months ago. I believe that India should not be hosting the games there truly is not enough money to host a big events of this caliber.

4 Tamil Migrants Expected to Learn About Release

Today in Vancouver British Columbia 4 Tamil migrants are expected to learn about being released. The migrants traveled for 3 months and landed in British Columbia claiming that they are refugees of their country. When the boat landed there were approximately 500 refugees on board. The immigrants are learning about being released and becoming Canadian citizens. The federal judge has made a decision about a temporary stay and is going to reveal whether they stay for good later this evening. The Immigration and Refugee board is accusing the federal government for not taking this matter into greater detail and trying harder to find out the true identities of the migrants.

I believe that these people should not be granted stay here in Canada i believe that they should all be removed and be sent back to their own country. The reason i feel this way is because who's is to say that these people are not carrying disease, viruses, and who really knows what problems they are facing with their home country. Before the final decision that is made i believe that Canada should be in contact with the Tamil government to try and identify the problem which forced these refugees to leave the country and come to Canada in the first place. If no contact can be made with the Tamil government these people should have to return to Tamil unless them and their families are in immediate danger.

Megabus Crashes While Using GPS

On a road trip between Philadelphia and Toronto a Megabus driver was using a GPS device. It was late at night when the driver crashed into a low railway bridge. Four people were killed and twenty others were injured. When the bus ran into the bridge it ripped apart the second level of the bus. The police are investigating whether it was the drivers own GPS system or Megabus's system. The bus travels a regular route around this bridge but this time the driver made a wrong turn thus leading him to this low hanging bridge. The driver said it was dark and he was not aware of the signs which warned that there was a low hanging bridge.

I believe that GPS systems should be banned period from cars, or information with the GPS should be blocked until the car has come to a complete stop. Now there are cars with built in GPS systems that enforce this rule, no editing until the vehicle has come to a complete stop. There has been a law passed where as people cannot talk on the phone in the car because it is too distracting. I don't understand how talking can be more distracting than pulling your eyes away from the road to notice what is in front of you. I think that people also rely too much on GPS they should be noticing and taking note about their surroundings, such as a low hanging bridge because GPS systems cannot tell you how low or how high a bridge is.

Genetically Modified Salmon

In the U.S. a company called Aqua Bounty is producing genetically modified salmon. They have added genes to make the fish grow twice as fast as normal. They are trying to get the genetically modified salmon for sale in U.S. market. Many people in the U.S. are trying to appeal this because they feel that it is wrong and cannot be good for the consumers to consume the product. The FDA has tested the salmon and said it is safe to eat, but the people of the U.S. say that the product was not tested for long enough and that the tests were not rigorous enough to be certain that it is safe.

In my personal opinion I believe that the people of U.S.A. are making the right choice to try to not make this product available to the public. Who knows what this product or many other genetically modified products will do to society in the long run. It could turn out that eating and drinking foods that are modified cause life threatening diseases. I believe that choosing natural, un-modified foods are a better choice.
